The 54th Annual Meeting of
the Japanese Environmental Mutagen and Genome Society (JEMS)

We are pleased to announce that the 54th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Environmental Mutagen and Genome Society (JEMS) will be held onsite in Shizuoka, Japan, on November 22 and 23, 2025.

The theme for this year's meeting is "Looking Ahead to the Era of Super Longevity: New Insights into Genomic Mutations and Cancer Development."
In today’s world, often referred to as the era of 100-year lifespans, controlling "aging" is considered a crucial key to achieving a long and healthy life. From the perspective of "genomic mutations," which our society has been actively discussing, aging can be seen as an irreversible state of proliferative arrest that serves as a vital cancer suppression mechanism, preventing mutated cells from proliferating and becoming cancerous. However, it has also been pointed out that aging cells induce inflammation and, under certain conditions, potentially resume proliferation and transform into cancer cells. Given the goal of maintaining health in a super-longevity society, we identified the relationship between aging and cancer development as a critical theme for discussion within our society.

Based on these ideas, we hope to deepen discussion by focusing on the keywords "aging" and "healthy longevity" at the 54th Annual Meeting. While honoring the traditions of our society, we are planning special lectures and symposia that will pave the way for new developments with a forward-looking perspective. We hope this conference will serve as a valuable opportunity to explore new research fields and establish research frameworks.
